Yes. CompTIA’s core certifications - A+, Network+, Security+, CySA+, PenTest+ and SecurityX - are valid for three years. They must be renewed with Continuing Education Units (CEUs), a qualifying higher-level exam, or CertMaster CE before the expiry date. There is no grace period after expiry.
It varies by certification - Security+ requires 50 CEUs within its three-year cycle, with higher-level certifications requiring more and lower-level ones less. Earning a qualifying higher-level CompTIA certification replaces the CEU requirement entirely.
Passing CompTIA CySA+, PenTest+ or SecurityX automatically renews Security+ (plus Network+ and A+ if held), with the renewal fee waived. Non-CompTIA certifications like CISSP only count toward CEUs and don’t renew Security+ automatically.
